Everyday, marketing and public relations professionals spend considerable time and money developing materials with which to brand and publicize their companies' products and services. Aspects of logos, brochures, jingles, product packaging, photos, illustrations, and Web sites are all forms of intellectual property (IP) that can be valuable... and infringed upon if not protected.

Maxine Barasch, Esq. will explain the various types of protections available including, trademark, trade dress, trade secret, and copyright. She will go over some tricky ownership scenarios that may arise between employers and employees, and contractors and hirers, especially where law rules over intuition, for example, where an employer does not own a work, which it paid an employee to create. Ms. Barasch will discuss licensing of music, photos, and other items to acquire rights in IP of others.

Maxine Barasch, Esq. is the principal attorney for the intellectual property law firm, Maxine Barasch & Associates, PLLC. Ms. Barasch received a Bachelor's Degree from the University at Albany and a Juris Doctorate from Albany Law School of Union University. She opened her law office in the spring of 2007 where she practices exclusively patent, trademark, copyright, and Internet law.

Ms. Barasch is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of New York State, the Federal District Court for the Northern District of New York, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Ms. Barasch is a member of the New York State and Albany County Bar Associations, and owns Tech Professional Magazines, a publication recognizing technical companies accomplishing outstanding things in the Capital Region. She serves on the board of directors of Capital Alliance of Young Professionals and Upstate New York/Vermont Chapter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and the Board of Associates of The College of St. Rose.
